CONGRATULATIONS SIR KNIGHT FATHER BEN KOSNAC !

Brother Knights of the St Nicolas Council and of the Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly congratulate Father Ben on entering the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus.

Father Ben achieved the highest degree of our Order at a ceremony on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Father Ben is the pastor of Ss Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

The Knights of Columbus are dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. A First Degree exemplification ceremony, by which a man joins the Order, explicates the virtue of charity. He is then said to be a First Degree Knight of Columbus. After participating in the next two degrees, he rises to the status of that degree.  The second degree focuses on unity, while the third degree centers on fraternity.  After taking their third degree, Knights are eligible to enter the fourth degree, the primary purpose of which is to foster the spirit of patriotism and to encourage active Catholic citizenship.

Color Corps Assignments

My fellow Sir Knights,

At the beginning of the month of August we had assignments for the Installation of Council Officers for St Ephrem Council #12102, a Casket Watch and Funeral Mass for SK Tony Nardozzi, and a Flag Retirement Ceremony. At mid month we were invited to the Madonna de Trapani Procession and Mass at Holy Family and Assumption Grotto for the Feast of the Assumption.

Considering that God decided to bless the troops with buckets of Holy Water for our Retirement Ceremony (causing a shortening of the outing) and threatened to do the same for the Assumption Grotto Mass, I would like to thank all the Sir Knights who came out and participated in all the events.

One more note: I have information sheet, a Call Sheet, for the members of the BVM Color Corps.  At the meetings  I would like all of the Color Corps members come up after the meeting so that they can look over this Call Sheet.  We need to find out who wants to be on it, which members need to be removed (due to disability, disinterest or availability), and to make any corrections to it.  Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated, it is essential to have a good, active Color Corps.

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming assignments. Important: All the times are actual event start times, Please be there at least ½ hour before event start or at the time that is specified in the assignment

Please check out the 4th Degree Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly web site (http://www.bvm1839.org) or the 4th degree link at St Nicholas Council web site (http://kofc7011sterlinghgts.org/) and attend the meetings to keep up with the latest requests. Sir Knights,

Fall is just around the corner. Children are heading back in school and the weather should be cooling down. Catechism will be starting at Ss. Cyril & Methodius, and we need volunteers to man the parking lot to insure the safety of the children attend-ing catechism. SK Joe Honce has been working hard trying to get the schedule filled out, but, he needs your help! Call / Email him with the dates you can help work. It is only 2 hours, 5:30pm – 7:30pm. This is a church activity.

The Assembly Picnic on Friday August 5 at Raintree Park in Troy was lightly at-tended. I am sure those in attendance enjoyed the fellowship with their fellow Sir Knights and Ladies. I would like to thank our Faithful Captain Bob Bogedin for all the hard work he did on the picnic.

On August 12, we held our Flag Retirement ceremony. We were challenged by the weather; we had to stop the ceremony due to a heavy rainstorm. We had a good turnout, but less than we had planned for. I extend a thanks and great appreciation to all those that helped make this event a success; Brother Sir Knights, Trail Life Troop 214, Knights of Columbus Squires, K of C Color Corps, Selfridge ANG Fire Dept., First Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corp and the Ladies of the Assem-bly , Heritage Girls, and Sir Knights who prepared our refreshments. Special thanks to PFN Joe Honce and Faithful Captain Bob Bogedin for all the work they did to ensure the success of this event.

Also, the fall exemplification will be held Sept. 17, 2016. If you know of any 3rd degree knight that would like to join our assembly as a 4th degree Sir Knight, I will need his application by September 8, 2016 . We have received two applications for membership at this time. The cost for the candidate is $70.00, $30.00 for his wife to attend the dinner and $7.00 for a class photo. Also we need a count of the Sir Knights and members of the LOTA planning to attend the exemplification dinner. The cost for the dinner is $30.00/person prior to September 8 and $35.00/person after September 8. Any Sir Knights planning to attend the exemplification please let me know by September 8, with a check payable to Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly.

Other upcoming events include the Memorial Mass for deceased Members and La-dies of St. Nicholas Council and Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly on November 3 at 7pm. The BVM Christmas Party will be December 15 at Sajos on Moravain near Garfield. Christmas Menu this Year. We need your order and There will be NO TICKETS SOLD AT THE DOOR!

Please pray for all our Sir Knights and Ladies in need of our prayers.

On behalf of myself and Lady Joanne, we wish all the Sir Knights and Ladies a safe and Happy Labor Day.

On August 27 after 23 hours of labor I delivered our sweet girl.

Jolie Renee Sobolic was simply beautiful.

She never had the chance to open her eyes to our world but she did to God instead. My soul is now tired and will need some healing.

I love and cherish the time we had with her, she fought so incredibly hard. Not only does she share my fighting spirit she shares my birth date as well.

We will miss everything that could have been in her life but she did not leave the world without a mark.

She taught us patience and virtue. She taught us that life is so very precious.

Jolie is our "Sunshine". I have no doubt that she had everything to do with that wilted little sunflower we planted in her honor blooming so tall and bright on August 27th.

I thank you everyone for your support through our journey, all our love.

Rachel (daughter of brother Knight, Jim Jaczkowski), Mark, Paige & Nevada     Jim Jaczkowski

Pray for all our friends, extended family members, and for all the men and women serving in our Armed Forces; that they may return to their families unharmed.

The Faithfully Departed

Please pray for all our members, ladies and friends of our Assembly, who have once walked among us, but are no longer among us,

May she rest in peace..and for all the born and unborn, may they all rest in peace.
