REPLY T0 Brother Sir Knight, Bob Bogedin / Faithful Captain Cell # 248.225.4614 -

Brother Knights of the St Nicolas Council and of the Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly congratulate Father Ben on entering the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus.

Father Ben achieved the highest degree of our Order at a ceremony on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Father Ben is the pastor of Ss Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

The Knights of Columbus are dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. A First Degree exemplification ceremony, by which a man joins the Order, explicates the virtue of charity. He is then said to be a First Degree Knight of Columbus. After participating in the next two degrees, he rises to the status of that degree.  The second degree focuses on unity, while the third degree centers on fraternity.  After taking their third degree, Knights are eligible to enter the fourth degree, the primary purpose of which is to foster the spirit of patriotism and to encourage active Catholic citizenship.

Color Corps Assignments

My fellow Sir Knights,

There will be no Official Commanders Corner in this month's Newsletter.  Lady Diane and I were on a much needed three day vacation last week celebrating our Birthdays and this last weekend we were busy helping the Daughter's move to a new apartment.  As such I missed two Color Corps Assignments that I hope some of you attended.

Watch your E-Mails for Assignment Updates and the WEB Site which will come out as soon as I can compile them.

Thank You for your understanding and support for the Color Corps.

Upcoming Assignments:

Oct 22nd Saturday 9:30 AM Prep Bowl posting of colors & presentations @ Ford Field (2000 Brush St. Detroit, Mi 482280) CC arrival time is requested at 8:30 AM – tickets, entry point details will be forthcoming. If it is the same as last year, entry is through Gates A or G or through the tunnel access on South side if the building. Tickets will be furnished.

Oct 29th Saturday 2:15 PM Procession of Mary of Fatima @ St. Lawrence (44633 Utica Rd. Utica MI 48137) Procession begins at the entrance of the Church @ 2:15 and ends @ 3:00 PM

One more note: I have information sheet, a Call Sheet, for the members of the BVM Color Corps.  At the meetings  I would like all of the Color Corps members come up after the meeting so that they can look over this Call Sheet.  We need to find out who wants to be on it, which members need to be removed (due to disability, disinterest or availability), and to make any corrections to it.  Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated, it is essential to have a good, active Color Corps.

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming assignments. Important: All the times are actual event start times, Please be there at least ½ hour before event start or at the time that is specified in the assignment

Please check out the 4th Degree Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly web site ( or the 4th degree link at St Nicholas Council web site ( and attend the meetings to keep up with the latest requests. Please leave your Name, Current Phone Number and E-Mail addresses so that we can contact you in case of any changes. If you have any questions about any assignment call me at Home (586) 756-5147 or Cell (586) 383-4263 or E-Mail .

Sir Knights,

The fall Exemplification was held on September 17, 2016. BVM Assembly welcomed 3 new 4th Degree Sir Knights; SK Fr. Ben Kosnac, SK Joseph Hurley and SK Mark Bruski. Welcome to our new Sir Knights .

On August 12, we held our Flag Retirement ceremony. We were challenged by the weather; we had to end the ceremony due to a severe thunderstorm. We had a good turnout, but less than we had planned for. I extend a thanks and great appreciation to all those that helped make this event a success; Brother Sir Knights & Trail Life Troop 214, Knights of Columbus Squires, K of C Color Corps, Selfridge ANG Fire Dept., First Michigan Colonial Fife and Drum Corp and the Ladies of the Assembly & Heritage Girls, who prepared our refreshments. Special Thanks to PFN Joe Honce and Faithful Captain Bob Bogedin for the work they did to insure the success of this event.

Any request for funds need to be presented to the officers before being taken to the regular business meeting.

The District meeting is November 6 at 2pm at DeCarlo’s Banquet Center. The La-dies will have a packing party for our troops while the Sir Knights are meeting.

Memorial Mass is November 3 at 7pm at Ss. Cyril & Methodious Church for de-ceased members and ladies of St. Nicholas Council and Blessed Virgin Mary Assembly. Prior to Holy Mass the rosary will be prayed at 6:30pm.

December 15th, 2016 is the date for our annual Christmas Dinner for the Assembly at Sajos on Moravain near Garf eld Rd in Sterling Heights.

I would also encourage more Sir Knights to become active in the Color Corps. Our Commander, Sir Knight Larry Sulikowski, is discouraged by the lack of participation at color corps assignments. Our color corps has gotten old and lost members due to death and illness. Please consider stepping up to help our color corp.

Next officers’ meeting is October 13th at 7pm and next business meeting is October 20th at 7:30pm.
